The archive received a donation of Lillian Michelson’s film research library in December 2020. A collection of nearly 3,863 feature films is maintained by the Internet Archive. Various Machinima films from internet publishers, including Rooster Teeth and Machinima.com, as well as independent creators, are collected by the archive. Utilizing computer games (game engines), or software engines in a sandbox-like environment, Machinima represents a digital artform that creates motion pictures, reenacts plays, or even disseminates presentations and keynotes. The NASA Images team at the Internet Archive collaborated extensively with all NASA centers to continuously enhance the expanding collection. A Space Act Agreement between the Internet Archive and NASA established the NASA Images archive (facilitating public access to a single), searchable resource of NASA’s image, video, and audio collections.

Instead of constructing sets or solely relying on digital techniques like greenscreens or StageCraft, the production discovered that filming with a small crew at 80 worldwide locations that closely resembled the desired sci-fi aesthetic was more cost-effective. The Creator (a 2023 science fiction action film), was produced and directed by Gareth Edwards, who also co-wrote the screenplay along with Chris Weitz.
